It is with much regret that the directors of The Association of Larger Scale Railway Modellers (ALSRM Ltd) have decided to cancel the show planned for Sunday 8th May at Wycombe Leisure Centre.
Planning for the show started late this year for a number of reasons: the continuing impact of the pandemic and the timetable around easing of restrictions as well as the untimely death of our MD, Owen Gibbon, who was pivotal to securing exhibits in previous years. It has been a tough task to take up the mantle of his work.
Additionally, recent world events have resulted in a sharp rise in fuel and energy costs. Support for the show is not only in the form of trade support, but also exhibitors and stewards from across the UK who we rightly reimburse for their expenses. These increasing costs have to be factored in to the overall show budget.
The Association has always prided itself on rigorous scrutiny and control of its costs whilst providing a fair deal to all those involved but without a stable financial environment this cannot be achieved with any confidence.
I can confirm that the decision to cancel has not been taken lightly, but necessarily.
As a committee, we will look in detail at the future of the show in terms of location and future viability, and consider what we need to do to come back stronger in future years.
